Trowbridge Town Tigers: Match Report – South Newton & Barford Hornets (H)

Trowbridge Town Tigers recorded a comfortable home win yesterday at The Daykin Estates Ground, as Assistant Manager Mike Ritson tells the story…

Tigers recorded back to back wins for the first time since their opening two games of the season. Beating a South Newton team who pushed them close earlier on in the season.

This time around Tigers were the better team for the majority. Tigers played their best half of football this season, blowing their opponents away with a 4-0 half time score line.

The first goal came from Elliott Caldicott who controlled Will Bayley’s free kick over the defenders head before applying the finish from 12 yards. Tigers were 2 up quickly after when Will Bayley capitalised on a defensive error finishing well. In what was a very fierce and competitive first half, Tigers grabbed a third when Tom Caldicott, who had a commanding game in centre midfield, played the ball through to Bayley scored his second from just inside the box.

The fourth came just before half time when both centre backs combined, this time Elliott Caldicott turned provider lofting a ball over the South Newton defence for captain Darren Hill to grab his first goal for the club.

The second half started even, but Tigers soon got themselves on top and created a raft of chances. First Dan Peters was denied from close range after Tommy Luckman cross. However, moments later Peters found some space inside right of the box, beating a defender before smashing it home for 5-0.

The crowd couldn’t believe their eyes as both Jake Letteboer and then Youssef Qisori both missed open goals from close range. This spurred South Newton who scored two goals in quick succession with Tobie Keel grabbing a brace, one from close range and the second a neat little toe poke under Tigers Keeper Hodge.

As the game fizzled out, Jake Letteboer made some amends finishing from outside the box with the last kick of the game. The final score was Tigers 6-2 South Newton

Tigers (joint) Man of the Match: Thomas Caldicott and Jack Milburn.
