THE HIVE: Trowbridge Town Youth Roundup: 01/10/23

Last weekend, Trowbridge Town FC joined the FA and NSPCC’s Play Safe Initiative. With the support of The FA and NSPCC, this campaign unites all levels of the game, from Premier League to grassroots.

As an FA Accredited Club, we take safeguarding and welfare VERY seriously. Our Club Welfare Officer, Club Secretary or your child’s Age Group Manager are available to contact should you have any questions or concerns – you can find their details on our contact us page.

Welcome back to The Hive, where we take a look over how Trowbridge Town Youth are getting on!

U7’s-U11’s:

As per FA rules, we cannot post scores or events from these matches – however as usual a big thanks to players, volunteers, coaches, team sponsors, parents and everyone else that allow our young Bees to play football.

U12’s:

There was a big game for the U12 Lions this week, an away derby against Trowbridge Wanderers. A dominant first half display put the Lions 5-1 up, before adding a couple more in the second half – the game and bragging rights going back across town to Woodmarsh with a 7-2 win. Coach Stuart Graham added:

“Superb play from all the players who are getting better each week and playing some great football. Player of the match was Alfie with his first goals for TTFC and a hat trick. Roll on next week and return to Woodmarsh for round 1 of the cup.”

The U12 Leopards played out a thrilling encounter away at Chippenham Town White, coming back from 3-1 down at half time to draw 4-4. Manager Ben Kiely reflected:

“After a slow start and going 3-1 down just after half time, the boys showed a lot of resilience and character to battle back and draw 4-4. Great goals from Logan (2), Charlie and Laurence. Laurence was man of the match – great result boys!”

The U12 Tigers, led by Garry Heywood, also came back from a 2 goal deficit away at Chippenham Town Blue, to draw 2-2. Garry added:

“Today we played the reverse fixture of Chippenham blues from last week and we were 2-0 down before the 3rd quarter and with 2 goals from Charlie H (5 goals in 2 games) we drew 2-2! It was a very one sided game, but we just couldn’t score! Man of the match was Leo who made it 2 outstanding performances out of 2 games! What a great start to his Tigers season.”

U13’s:

It was goals’ galore for our U13’s this weekend. The Eagles, led by Mac, put in a brilliant performance against Castle Combe Colts to win by 7 goals to 1 – having been 2-1 up at halftime. The U13 Hawks, led by Hugo Tavares, had a wild match against Melksham Town – drawing 3-3 at half time, the Hawks’ succumbed to a 6-3 defeat at home. The U13 Falcons, led by Chris Snow, did not have a match this weekend.

U14’s:

The Under 14 Tigers, led by Wayne Smith, played out a thrilling game at home to Purnell Sports, converting a 2-1 lead at half time into a 6-5 victory – well done to them on an excellent result!

U15’s:

Our U15 Tornadoes played out a draw at home to Frome Town this weekend, converting a 0-0 at half time into a 2-2 draw; Manager Nathan McKinley tells the story:

“Was a great show of resilience and determination from the lads today. 0-0 at the break and then conceding 2 goals early in the second half, but we kept battling away, creating chances. Tobias got us back level with a well taken penalty after EJ’s shot was knocked out of play by a defender’s arm. Persistence paid off and Ryan got us back level with just a few minutes left. Defensively we were strong today, including through midfield, and a great save from Joe tipping a shot over the bar kept us within reach. Tobias won Man of the Match”

Coach Nathan McKinley dons his Play Safe badge, as part of our pledge towards the FA Play Safe Campaign.

U16’s:

Our U16’s ply their trade in two leagues; we have a team in the Mid-Wiltshire Youth League, and one in the North Wiltshire Youth League. It was the Eagles in the Mid-Wilts that stole the show on Sunday, with a convincing 6-1 win over Devizes Town (something the 1st’s couldn’t manage last season!). In the North Wilts, Tim Gingell’s Under 16’s played a local tie away at Staverton Rangers, in Southwick – coming away with a comfortable 4-1 win. Tim reflected:

“U16s made the short trip to Southwick on Sunday morning to face Staverton Rangers and came around with a 4-1 victory against their nearest rivals. Man of the Match performance from Tommy L with 2 goals, a Leo Pl goal and an own goal.”

U17’s/18’s:

It was bragging rights in favor of our U17’s at Hilperton Village Hall, as they took on local rivals Bradford Town, coming away with a 3-2 victory. This follows on from an emphatic 9-1 win away at Heytesbury last week, and leaves the U17’s top of the league with 3 wins from 3.

Congratulations on so many excellent results to everyone involved, and we hope that you had a great weekend!
