The Bees made the short trip over to Calne today, to take on Calne Town Reserves. Calne piled the pressure on early.
The game started as a low key affair, a Calne free kick coming to nothing early on, and a couple of Bees attacks failing to produce an end product.
On 6 minutes, Steven Fox was surrounded around 30 yards from goal and had no option but to pass it back to Ramsey in goal. The Calne striker gambled on the clearance and it deflected off of him and into the back of the net, putting Trowbridge on the back foot.
On 14 minutes, Samuel raced clear on the right hand side with the ball and was bundled over just outside the box, but the referee waved play on. Calne counter attacked and could have added a 2nd, but the shot was high and wide.
On 20 minutes, Samuel was causing trouble again, his cross deflected just behind for a corner, from which Josh Howlett’s header sailed just over.
Calne then had a number of chances, first springing the offside trap on 23 minutes, only for the shot to clear the net and trees, before Ramsey was forced into a brilliant save from point blank range on 25 minutes.
The Bees then kicked themselves into gear, George Bendle turning his man inside out before shooting from 10 yards out – unfortunately the shot didn’t have enough power and the keeper was able to save low to his left.
On 31 minutes, Ryan Baggs put a great ball in, which Samuel volleyed towards goal, his shot cannoning off the outside of the post and out for a goal kick.
A few minutes later, Samuel was at it again, attempting a shot from a tight angle which was saved.
Play was then stopped for Lewis Wayman to receive treatment, the former Trowbridge Town Reserves captain involved in a collision in mid-air. Following this stoppage, Calne rallied and won a free kick in the D, only for the shot to sail wide and over.
Town came out fighting in the second half, and got their rewards just 2 minutes in – George Bendle was played in one on one, his shot was saved well by the keeper, before he squared it for Miluk. Miluk still had work to do but fired it home into the bottom corner to equalise.
On 57 minutes, Baggs and Sterling combined, with the former unleashing a shot from the edge of the area that went just over. Then on 59 minutes, George Bendle turned his man inside out again, only for the shot to go just over the bar.
Dom Kilbane tried an ambitious effort from 30 yards out on 65 minutes, which unfortunately went over and took out a branch from the set of trees behind the goal.
Adam Shipman came on on 68 minutes for Jack Sterling, and his impact was almost immediate – his ball sent in low to Bendle, who’s shot was cleared off the line.
Calne had a shot from distance on 79 minutes, which forced Ramsey into a fantastic diving save. Josh Howlett was able to hook the resulting corner away.
On 81 minutes, Ramsey sent a long ball downfield to Miluk, who beat his man and shot low from the angle, only for it to deflect out for a corner. From the resulting corner, Calne were able to clear the ball away.
On 83 minutes, Adam Shipman was played in on the right, his shot fizzing across the box – waiting for a touch – but instead rolling agonisingly just wide of the post. Almost immediately, The Bees attacked again, and Shipman’s shot was saved well by the keeper and out for a corner.
Calne then had a golden chance to win it, a defensive mix up at the back leaving Ramsey exposed, but some brilliant defending allowed The Bees to clear when a goal looked almost certain.
The final action of the game was a Milburn cross, headed just over by Howlett.
