PRESS RELEASE – for immediate circulation.
A Message from the Chairman of Trowbridge Town FC.
Last night, Tuesday 6th June, I attended a meeting of the Trowbridge Town Council Leisure and Information Services Committee The reason for my attendance was to ask the Town Council as Landlords of our facility for their permission to apply to Wiltshire Council for the installation of 8 floodlight pylons on the main pitch at Woodmarsh in order to make the ground grading needed for promotion to the next league or ‘step 6’ football, should our league position at the end of next season enable us to do so.
As many of you will know, this season we were the league champions and would have gone up had the ground not needed the improvements. I am pleased to inform you that those councillors present have unanimously given us their permission to such make an application and so as a club we will be now seeking an urgent meeting with Wiltshire Council officers prior to putting in the full planning application for said floodlights at the soonest opportunity.
It must be stressed that this is only a small step on the road to achieving the goal of bringing back a facility to the town which we have not had since the last set of floodlights were turned off in April 1997.
However myself as Chairman with the backing of others who have done most of the background work on this project will now be leaving no stone unturned in order to finally bring floodlight football back to Trowbridge in 2024, and at the same time opening up many other opportunities for extra funding for even more improvements to the facility at Woodmarsh, including more drainage work on the pitches to reduce the number of times in a season when the pitches can’t be used.
My thanks to Gary Caldicott for his help with the plans we have had drawn up, to Councillor David Vigar for his help and advice, and to the other Town Councillors who read the documents I provided to them, listened to my small presentation and support our vision for Woodmarsh, updating much needed leisure facilities in the town.
