The Beehive – TTFC Youth Round Up (04/05 Nov + 11/12 Nov)

The Beehive returns – things have been a bit slower over the last couple of weeks, with school holidays and postponements – apologies for this!

We start our round up with a brief look over some of our games from 04/11 and 05/11, with match reports from Stuart Graham and Ben Kiely (U12) and Tim Gingell (U16):

U12’s – Ben Kiely 0-1 (L):

A solid performance by the under 12 Leopards today against Castle Combe. The team went a goal down in the first 5 minutes of the game, but battled on well and worked hard for each other to ensure they didn’t concede any more goals. Unfortunately – after many attempts, in which we struggled to find the back of the net, the match finished with a 1-0 loss.

In contrast though, the last time we played this team 2 months ago they beat us 6-2, so overall our performance was much better, and the team is heading in the right direction. Onwards and upwards!

U12’s – Stuart Graham – 6-8 (W):

After a 2 week break, Trowbridge Town U12 Lions took on Larkhall Athletic at a sunny Lansdown, Bath. It seemed the players were still on holiday and started very slowly, conceding 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. After a few encouraging words, the team started to play some football and didn’t let their heads drop and got to halftime 4-4.

After the break, the team showed their true colors and dominated much of the second half finishing the game winning 8-6! An incredible scoreline.

Player of the Match was Issac, who was a strong presence in midfield, with his determination to break up the play ability on the ball.

Player of the Match: Isaac

I’d also like to praise the keeper for Larkhall who pulled off some outstanding saves.

U16’s – Tim Gingell – 4-4 (D):

Our North Wilts u16s had an early morning start at Foundation Park, home of Swindon Town women and academy, against reigning and champions elect Supermarine.

The lads battled hard and a well disciplined determined display saw them lose 2-0, with supermarine scoring two 2nd half goals, the smallest margin Supermarine have won by this season – so a credit to the boys for digging in and frustrating our opponents.

Our Eagles in the Mid-Wilts had a late afternoon KO at Stanley Park, Chippenham and came away with a point to remain top of Mid Wilts div 1 in a high scoring game. Having been 4-1 down with 10 mins left, we scored three late goals to gain an excellent 4-4 draw with Chippenham Barca – with goals for Owen x2, Leo and Toby.

Onto last weekend – and thankfully, more fixtures. Unfortunately, due to the harsh recent weather, the pitches at Woodmarsh were once again washed out, with many teams once again reversing fixtures or playing at alternative venues, where the weather allowed!

Flooding at Woodmarsh caused by a drainage issue – 10/11/2023.

We have several match reports sent in by coaches across our age groups – here are their reports on last weekend’s fixtures:

Jack Palmer White – TTFC Tigers U9:

“The Tigers played their best game of the season with every player giving a fantastic performance in a very even contest against Melksham Town U9 Harriers. It was great to see the team playing so well together & with big smiles on their faces. Congratulations to Ed who was voted player of the match for his excellent defending all game.”

Garry Heywood – U12 Tigers:

“Today’s game was an away cup match at Castle Combe. We had a great game against a team that’s a league or 2 above us and we held our own for the majority of the game! It finished 5-5 but lost on penalties 4-3.

Both teams held a minute’s silence before KO in honor of those that have fallen.

Some special shouts to Bradley H – definitely scored 2 goals maybe a hat trick (not sure if his corner went straight in or not)

Garry’s U12 team pre-kick off

Leo for playing out of position in defense and still putting in a fantastic performance against a very quick strike force and Lucas and Charlie H for some great attacking performances!

Player of the match Ashton for some amazing saves in goal.”

A very muddy Ashton – POTM – Your parents are not going to enjoy washing that kit!

Stuart Graham – U12 Lions:

“In tricky conditions, U12 Lions were against Melksham Town Tornadoes in round two of the League Cup. Both teams struggled with the pitch in the first half with Lions being pegged back twice before finishing the first half 3-2.

Lions came out in the second half and produced a better performance with some great passing, composure with both wingers being more direct and using their pass. Melksham keeper pulled off some great saves to go with some poor finishing to keep the score down with Lions finishing the game winning 5-2. Roll on round 3.

POTM was Ed, solid in defense and showed great composure on the ball.”

Wayne Smith – U14 Tigers:

“TTFC U14s suffered their first league defeat of the season away to Westfield.

The final score was 4-2, however on another day if the disallowed goal wasn’t canceled out and the x3 shots against the woodwork had gone in, then it would have been a different outcome.

Overall, it was a great match (very tense and extremely competitive) on a tricky pitch and we are really looking forward to the return fixture at Woodmarsh.”

Nathan McKinley – U15 Tornadoes:

“What an unbelievable show of football from the lads today. Taking so much from our confined space/creativity/positive shooting session on Friday and putting into a game like we’ve not seen before.

Confident passing, building play, opening up space, moving out of congested areas and some amazing long range shots and great finishes.  Total shot-count was easily 25+, most on target or v close. Their keeper played a good game and kept the final tally to 8.

Joe made some great saves from the few shots they managed to get off to keep a clean sheet. Shout out to Tommo for agreeing to step in for goalie duties for the last 25 mins and let Joe play outfield. Tommo also made some key saves and set up one of the best goals when he played a long goal kick to mid field, who played out wide to Caleb on the right who whipped a great cross in and Ryan got on the end of it for the smoothest goal of the season I think.

So many great performances today but MoM goes to Caleb playing in a completely different role out on the right for a change. Made some great runs, crosses and challenges earning a goal and 3 assists.

Ryan bagged a hat-trick and is really developing, trusting his team mates with lovely linkup plays in the final third. Also well done to Joe who scored a great sliding finish from Caleb’s cross in his outfield debut!!

We now move to the top of the table and we’re not looking back! COYT!”

Tim Gingell – U16:

“U16s North Wilts game at Marlborough was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Hopefully they return to action in League Cup in an early morning game at Wroughton Sunday.

Eagles reversed fixture away from Woodmarsh to Lansdown and came away with a 4-3 against Bath Arsenal despite letting a 3-1 lead slip; however a late winner saw them main top spot in Mid Wilts Div 1.

This week they return to Lansdown and facing their toughest game of the season against reigning champions Larkhall Athletic.”

Thank you to everybody involved in our youth set up – an excellent set of results here, and we are incredibly proud of all of you – a great start to the season for so many of you, and lots of fun being had along the way, which is the main objective!
