The Bees made the short trip over to the outskirts of Bath on a warm September’s evening to take on Odd Down Development.
The game was a fairly low key affair in the first 15 minutes, with Ramsey saving an Odd Down shot on 6 minutes, before Town had a half chance from a corner on 11 minutes by Miluk deflected wide.
On 20 minutes, The Bees had the ball in the back of the net – Dan Kovacs with a great finish from Leigh Rogers free kick, only for the linesman to rule it out as offside.
The Bees had several chances over the next few minutes, as Odd Down gave away several free kicks – Kilbane had a header just over, whilst McKay sent another chance just wide from close range.
The momentum of the game was paused during the first half with two delays; a drinks break on 25 minutes, and not long after play restarted, a further delay following a tackle and altercation between the Odd Down defender and Ryan Baggs. After much deliberation, the result was a yellow card for the Odd Down defender (and we believe for Ryan as well), and play resumed on 33 minutes.
Odd Down took advantage of this to score, following a defensive mix-up at the back which saw The Bees concede an OG. The Somerset side grew into the game for the next 5 or so minutes, hitting the bar before adding a well taken second goal – although the ball did appear to go out of play during the build up.
The Bees rallied towards the end of the first half, and got their rewards when Jack Miluk was fouled in the box. Leigh Rogers stepped up to convert the penalty and bring the scores back to 2-1.
Rogers was causing havoc again just 3 minutes later, his corner hitting the back of one defender, the front of another before falling kindly for Rustell to blast home from 3 yards out, levelling the scores at 2-2.
Miluk then raced in on goal and was brought down just outside of the box by the last man, although only a yellow card was the punishment, much to the bemusement of the town faithful.
In the second half, Odd Down scored quickly after the break to put themselves 3-2 up, following a free kick on the edge of the box. Mckay, minutes earlier, had lobbed the keeper, his lob coming up short before being cleared and a foul being committed on the defender in the process.
Going behind appeared to start a fire within the team, McKay, Miluk and Rogers all firing at the keeper in quick succession from 10-14 yards out, who pulled off some great saves.
McKay was then played through and fired a powerful shot into the top corner to level the scores at 3-3. Just 60 seconds later, Rustell drove in a low strike past the keeper to put The Bees 4-3 up, sending the travelling support into delirium.
Ramsey pulled off some excellent saves over the next 15 minutes, keeping out several Odd Down chances, before Jack Miluk slotted the ball under the keeper to make it 5-3, and seal all 3 points for The Bees.
