Chairman’s Update: November 2023

With lots of hard work going on behind the scenes at the football club, and to mark a year since the current management team took over, Trowbridge Town chairman Andrew Meaden would like to share the following update with our supporters:

“A year ago today the supporters of Trowbridge Town Football Club were rocked by the news that the club Chairman/Manager, his assistants and several players were leaving the club with the team top of the Wiltshire Senior League.

Club Captain Ryan Baggs and Coach/now Club Legend Matt Rusling remained, steadied the ship, brought in some new faces, and built on the fantastic start the club had made, finished the job and won the title by 6 points ahead of a very good Devizes Town side.

I came back to the club at the end of January in the role of interim Chairman,  I knew very few of the youth managers and their wives/partners but I have found them all to be a dedicated, hard working bunch who share the similar desire I have to wake up this sleeping giant of a football club and get it rising back up the pyramid.

We have an amazing groundsman and others doing work behind the scenes, not to mention a club secretary and treasurer without whom the club would have gone to the wall years ago.  Our social media is the envy of many clubs and we are so lucky to have our Social & Website Content volunteer onboard.

So, 12 months on from that dark day, I am pleased to announce that – despite several small delays and the odd Bat Survey last month  – Trowbridge Town Football Club are going ahead with a full planning application in December for floodlights for Woodmarsh, together with other improvements to get the ground up to the next level.

Some of the work requires progress on the pitch to access grants, but I believe that if the good people of Trowbridge want the facility they will find the money, so if we get the nod to proceed we will need to find the money ahead of any grants and quickly as I would love to see the u18s and Vets at Woodmarsh next season regardless of what happens with the first team (of course if they progress we will get access to more funds – no pressure Ryan – just do what you did Dec-May this year)

If you want to join our small behind the scenes team, maybe you followed the old club at Frome Road, please come to the next home game on December 9th vs Odd Down and see what we are trying to do moving forward.

Yesterday saw our best performance of the season, a smaller crowd than normal due to it being a league cup match, but still better than half the teams in the TWL First Division at home yesterday.

We sold 35 programmes (a sell out), had a visit from a very impressed ground hopper, and I retrieved a football from the hedgerows without ending up in casualty again… happy days.

Anyone who really knows me knows my passion for non league, I work with some great local clubs who I also want to see go higher and higher, but in my twilight years, I am first and foremost a dedicated BEE, and would love to see more of the people of Trowbridge join me at Woodmarsh.”
