The Tigers took on London Leftfooters in the GFSN League Match at The Daykin Estates Ground on Sunday Afternoon. The match was Lee Mattravis first home game as manager and it couldn’t of gone better for him, with a very convincing 18-0 victory in the hot sun. Lee tells the story…
With a strong starting line up despite a few sickness drop outs, the tigers started well and fast and were rewarded with a early goal, Tim Brown played a through ball to Steve Hill, who cut the ball back to dan bodman, who took a touch and fired past the keeper. 1.0
Tigers carried the fluid pass and moving and got second 2 minutes later, Josh Field bursting down the right wing, his cross missed everyone but came to Steve Hill, who took a touch and slotted it in to the back of the net. 2.0
Any attack from leftfooters were being snuffed out by Darren and luke Thomas at the back, while Ali jewers in goal might as well of went off for a cup of tea.
Tigers attacks just kept coming, a ball by Peter morely to dan bodman, played youseff through on the right, he passed the ball across the 6 yard box for dan wood easy tap in, apparently there was a bobble and he put it over.
Less than a minute later Sean lennon produced a quality cross which was begging for it to be headed in, enter dan wood who’s header went over the bar.
It would be 3rd time lucky though, this time good work again between Tim Brown and Steve Hill saw Tim’s cross to dan wood to head in to the back of the net with probably the harder of the 3 chances. 3.0
Jake Johnson, playing his first game, got straight in the action, collecting from Tim and firing from just outside the box on the side, which was well tipped over by leftfooters keeper. George York was next to have a go from distance, but his fierce shot flew just wide.
The 4th goal did come soon after, good work from Josh Field who played it to George, his cross was completely missed kicked by Josh Field, but fell to dan bodman, who’s first time finish gave him his second of the game. 4.0
The tigers were playing superb football and were rewarded again with a cracking finish by jake Johnson, who took a touch 35 yards out, before firing a beauty which flew over the keeper and in. 5.0
Some really good link up between bodman and wood seen wood fire a shot outside the area, keeper made a good save down low, only for Josh Langley to tap in the rebound. 6.0
Some half chances for the tigers followed, before a corner swung in, was put into the back of the net by jake Johnson using his shoulder to get the ball into the net. 7.0
There was enough time for one more goal before half time, dan bodman who with youseff and Pete controlled the midfield broke through on goal, rather going for the hattrick, unselfishly squared it to dan wood who put in the back of the net to finish of a great half 8.0 at half Time.
The hot sun meant tiredness was kicking in, so was a chance to rotate the players and give some of the younger lads a chance to have a run out and get valuable game time.
The second half for tigers started slower, with more possession and getting the new subs some touches and into the game, the first chance fell george York, who’s pace helped burst through the leftfooters defence, and curling a shot past the keeper to make it 9.0
Josh Field wanted to get in on the act, after a one-two with george, took a touch but fired his shot wide, should just stick to defending really.
Dan wood was next to try his luck looking for his 3rd, his sweet strike look like it was in only for the keeper to make another good save.
Tigers pushed the tempo of there football up, and a great pass by wood put youseff through on the left, with Cameron May and Sean lennon both free in the box, youseff decided to go alone, only to drag his shot well wide.
Youseff greediness did get him a goal though, he took it round 3 players, walked around the keeper and tapped in to make it double digits 10.0.
George then with another run down the right, run past one, turned a second player before hitting a shot with the outside of his boot into the left corner. 11.0
Sean then almost had a great shot/cross which looks to loop over the keeper only for him to tip over. Soon after the cross/shot worked, when it’s your day its your day. Tim Brown from a corner curled it and it flew over everyone into the opposite top corner for a well deserved goal for him. 12.0
More brilliant attacking play seen craigs pass to dan wood, his first time flick to Sean, who also first time cross fell to Cameron May, who’s well hit shot again save very well by the keeper.
Soon after Sean again down the right, terrorising them played a ball into the box to dan wood, his touch took it away from the defender, who brought him down for a penalty. After deliberate who takes it with many wanting a hat trick, it was great to see it given to Cameron May. Who stepped up(not wanting to take it at all) hitting it high down the middle past the keeper for his very first tigers goal. 13.0
A very good performance from bodman, saw his through ball to Steve Hill get through, as the keeper was setting himself Steve had already placed it at his near post with a tidy finish 14.0. Goal of the game vote came from goal 15. A corner was half cleared to youseff, who to a touch before hitting a beautiful volley in to top bins. 15.0
Peter morely, who did a extremely solid performance as the holding midfield produced a brilliant through pass to George, his shot hit the post and fell to youseff, who’s chance for a hat trick was blocked on the line brilliantly by leftfooters defender.
George did get his hat trick minutes later, Steve Hill enjoying life on the left, played a ball through the back 4 to George who had the simple task to fire past the keeper. 16.0
16 became 17 straight after a mis kick by the keeper fell straight to jake Johnson, who passed it into the bottom corner to complete his hat trick as well.17.0
George though was making sure he out did jake, and done so with a tap in after some good footwork in the box to finish on 4 goals. 18.0
A superb performance from the tigers, who kept the ball on the ground and played some fantastic passing attacking football.
Well done Tigers!
